Featured Smart Office Technologies at CES 2019

With CES wrapping up its four-day run, consumers have seen some amazing products from self-driving cars to robot dogs, to a TV with a roll-up display. However, CES wasn’t all about consumers, as tech companies brought some of their new gadgets to the office, presenting smart office technologies.

Office of the Future

The smart office was one of the hot new categories at the show designed to make workers more productive. Products ranged from voice-enabling the office to smart furniture and beyond. Legrand presented the Office of the Future introducing advanced sensors in partnership with Microsoft Office 365. The advanced sensors do much more than turn lights on and off; today, they can measure temperature, air quality and even note how many people are in a room. These new advances aim to make the best use of meeting spaces offering workers comfort and office administrators the ability to save a little money.

A new research study conducted by Legrand and IFOP, an international market research company, showed that globally nearly three-fourths of survey respondents want to know in real-time if a meeting room is occupied. Not a surprising revelation, however, through Legrand’s partnership with Microsoft Office 365, the sensors will allow employees to use a reserved room that is unoccupied. If the Legrand sensors don’t detect people in a reserved room after a period of time, then through the use of artificial intelligence, the room will show it is available in Office 365.

AI Pad

Tuya Smart introduced the AI Pad which offers secure access and control of office buildings. The AI Pad is designed to identify employees and prevent unauthorized access, as well as be used in attendance management. The device uses smart cameras and sensors to recognize employees through “face data” that has been uploaded previously. From there, employees can access other smart devices for which they are authorized in the building (including elevators) without the use of key cards.

MiraLogic Office Intelligence System

Targus, best known for its docking systems, made headlines with its MiraLogic Office Intelligence System. Hailed as the first entry in sensible workplace administration, Miralogic is an IoT platform that accumulates real-time information on how and when desks are used to improve open office setups. As an example, the system could detect that a desk isn’t used during the summer because heat and glare from the windows make it too hot for personnel. Office administrators can then determine whether the desk can be moved to a new location.

HP Sure View

HP and Samsung introduced new innovations for computers and screen. HP debuted the third generation of HP Sure View with an integrated privacy screen. The new screen offers increased privacy for users, as information will only be displayed to someone sitting closely and looking directly at the screen. If users want to share their screen, a push of a button will allow others to see.

Samsung Space Monitor

Samsung believes bigger computer monitors are a necessity. The Samsung Space Monitor, available in 27-inch and 31.5-inch sizes, clamps to the back of a desk and takes up 93 percent space than traditional monitors.

Conclusion

Obviously, the workspace is changing. Over the next few years, it will be fascinating to see how these smart office technologies will significantly change the work environment.
